Garcinia Cambogia Side Effects

Written by Catherine G. Howard. Posted in Side Effects

side-effectsIn its natural state, garcinia cambogia is a flowering evergreen tree native to southeast Asia and west and central Africa. The fruit of the tree is resembles a small pumpkin and is usually yellow or green in color. This fruit has traditionally been used in the preparation of curries. As a dietary supplement, garcinia cambogia and its extract, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), is considered one of the best natural weight loss products available. Ingesting garcinia cambogia with HCA has been shown to suppress appetite and enhance fat-burning.

Some double-blind studies have even shown garcinia cambogia doubling, and sometimes tripling, the weight lost by a control group using a placebo, over a twelve-week period.Other possible health benefits of garcinia cambogia with HCA include inhibition of lesion formation in certain types of cancer, enhanced muscle endurance when exercising, and increased red blood cell count.Garcinia cambogia with HCA is generally considered safe by the medical community, and the extracted supplement has undergone extensive animal testing. It does not have any known adverse effects on healthy adults, and is considered a fully safe botanical supplement. There are also no established negative prescription drug interactions for garcinia cambogia.

However, just as with any dietary supplement or medication, any person looking to enhance their healthy lifestyle by taking garcinia cambogia with HCA should always seek the advice of their primary physician prior to incorporating the change. Also, people with certain preexisting conditions are cautioned against taking the supplement.

People with Type 2 diabetes, or diabetes mellitus, are strongly cautioned not take garcinia cambogia without consulting their physician. The same properties that allow garcinia cambogia with HCA to block carbohydrate absorbion also can lower blood sugar levels. If the supplement is taken in conjunction with diabetes medication, blood sugar levels can drop adversely. However, in contrast, taken in the proper amounts specific to the individual, garcinia cambogia can actually improve glucose metabolism. In healthy adults, ingestion can also help curb cravings for sweets and carbohydrates.

garcinia-adverse-effectsPeople suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia should not be given garcinia cambogia with HCA. As a side effect, the HCA found in the supplement may cause the formation of acetylcholine in the brain of the affected patient.

Women who are pregnant or nursing should likewise not take garcinia cambogia with HCA as a dietary supplement without first consulting with their obstetrician. While there have been no reports of any ill effects, there have also been no definitive studies on the safety for the unborn child or absorbtion through breastfeeding.

As with all dietary supplements and medications there can be some individual side effects. With garcinea cambogia, these effects rate from very mild to mild. When taken in the proper doses indicated, the instances of even these side effects, is negligible.

When taken in too large a dose, garcinea cambogia may have certain discomforting gastrointestinal side effects. Nausea, vomiting, and some laxative effects have been reported. However, these instances are very rare, and occurred when the amount ingested was far beyond the recommended dosage.

Some stomach discomfort can also occur when the recommended method and period between doses is not followed. The dosage is usually broken up into ingestion three times a day, up to an hour before meals.

Considering the many tested health benefits, and also considering the dearth of any severe adverse side effects when taken properly, it would seem that positives far outweigh any possible negatives. Garcinia should be considered a safe and effective enhancement to any sensible and healthy weight loss regimen.

Important Note: There is a handful or more of companies providing these types of supplements. You’ll want to make sure that garcinia cambogia extract features prominently in any of the supplements you are using, that it contains at least 50% hydroxycitric acid, and that it doesn’t include any other dangerous compounds, chemicals, or additives whatsoever. Hi
True, in that case you should use this supplement with caution because it can increase the risk of harmful side effects, like rhabdomyolysis or muscle degradation.
